Jackie's Day

We struggled and were both at risk

when you burst into my world.

They said a boy; but there you were:

           a happy, chubby, rosy girl.

You didn’t fuss a lot, but smiled

and as you grew into a tot

You followed, watched, deduced and questioned

          each and every coming thought.

The years have come and gone

and left us many diverse memories

Frustrations, tears, pride and laughter

all make up a part of these

And as you age and change and think

to start and live your life again

I see both woman that you are

and bright eyed babe you were back then.

Who you become is in the power

of God’s heart and yet of yours

As you are learning to rely and want

          and be what faith secures

 I celebrate the future

as I celebrate that day long past

When mom and babe formed, eye to eye,

a bond that will forever last.
